PREMIER 10

Football ball

pen Premier 10 is a very popular football pools competition that focuses on 10 matches in the Premier League. The player has to predict whether each of the Premier 10 matches will end as a home win, away win or draw. Prizes are paid to Premier 10 players who successfully predict the results of 9 or all 10 of the matches. The estimated weekly jackpot is £20,000, but this can be higher thanks to a rollover feature that we will discuss shortly.

If you make one prediction for each of the Premier 10 matches then your entry will cost £1. However, you can make additional predictions if you are willing to pay more. The cost of entry is calculated by multiplying the number of selections you make for each match together, and the result is the cost in pounds. For example, if you make one prediction in each of nine matches and two predictions in the tenth match, the cost would be 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 2 = £2. If you made two predictions in the ninth and tenth matches, the cost would be 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 1 x 2 x 2 = £4.

Making more than one prediction about certain matches is most useful when you are confident about most of your Premier 10 predictions but not so sure about the remaining one or two. For example, if there is a match that you are confident will result as a home win or draw, but you can't say which, you could predict both the home win and the draw to cover both possibilities. It is also possible to cover all three possibilities (home win, away win and draw) if you have no clue about a particular match. Or you could just have a guess and keep the cost of your entry down.

Because the aim of Premier 10 is to predict the outcome of each match (as opposed to finding draws, as when playing the Classic Pools game) you can often benefit from studying the form of both teams involved in each match to come up with a logical prediction. For example, if the home team in one match is going through a run of success in its home games, and the away team in the same match is finding it hard to win when playing away, you would have a rational reason for predicting a home win.

Of course, luck also plays a part, and so you shouldn't be scared of taking a chance now and again if you are really unsure about how a particular match will result. After all, not every match results as the form suggests, so trusting your luck once in a while can pay big dividends.

The Premier 10 competition pays two prizes - one for players who correctly predict the result of 9 out of 10 matches and one for those who correctly predict 10 out of 10. If no player achieves 10 out of 10 then the prize money allocated for that week's jackpot is rolled over to the next Premier 10 competition. This can result in the Premier 10 jackpot being worth a great deal more than £20,000, and makes a £1 entry even better value for money than usual.
